Habitat:
The Kihansi spray toad used to live in the Kihansi River Gorge, which is located in the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania. As the Kihansi Dam came into place the frogs had to leave their territory as the Dam had taken it. They now live in a refugee in 6 separate U.S.A zoos thanks to the Toledo and Bronx zoo.
Behaviour:
Despite the fact that frogs are amphibians and normally lay eggs the Kihansi spray toad gives birth to fully formed young. The small toadlets can give birth to 20 babies at a time with every one individually being able to fit on the head of a pin. To feed these little spray toads it takes an enormous amount of small bugs and invertebrates.
Threats:
Habitat loss resulted in many spray toads death and endangerment.
Facts:
· The “spray toad” part comes from the fact they spend most of their time in the spray (mist) of the Kihansi waterfall.
· The Kihansi spray toad is now extinct in the wild due to habitat lose.
